I just cut the disposable training pants down the side, tore out the elastic bits (it's like smocking) and cut a pattern from there. The nice thing about being a spinner is that I carded up some rather dissatisfying wool for the absorbent part, and with every washing (because it's felting) it gets more and more water proof. LOL, I wish I could claim it as my engineering genius but it was dumb luck :)

Making your own diaper covers - that's terrific! I was lazy, just bought mine. Even though i can sew. I'm nursing, sleeping, trying to stay awake AND be cheerful with the older child, and doing laundry all the time. Wasn't gonna make those diaper bugger thingies too. Did you know there are knit diaper cover patterns out there? i bought some from Little Knits. For some future phantom baby or cloth diapering friend.

Oh excuse me, just noticed you said training pants. Now THAT is brave. Because the pee could just come out at any time! I think i just got mine from Bummies.
