Home again
I’m not a huge scrapbook person. Collage and altered books: Yes. Book binding: Yes. gluing die-cut cherubs and mounting photos on pre-printed backgrounds: No. Although it’s not something I could see myself doing voluntarily to pass time, it wasn’t as unpleasant as I expected (other than it was in the wee hours of the morning, and it was supposed to be my mom’s photo tribute to my Grandmother, and my mom was busy doing other things– like panicking.)
My sister and I finished the scrapbook and after an hour of coaxing managed to get my mom to go to bed. Coaxing included writing a memorial statement, and a brief biography of my Grandma and formatting a program for the memorial service.
I can’t get too bent out of shape over Mom’s procrastination, at heart I’m a procrastinator; I just hide it better.
The memorial service was nicely done and very touching. I think Grandma would have liked it. My mom’s cousin even brought in her little dog in a bag, which was a fitting tribute since Grandma used to sneak Mitzi (her tea-cup poodle) into restaurants, hospitals, and any other place where her baby wouldn’t generally be welcomed.
I noticed that the overwhelming number of women in our family have either birds, dogs or both. I don’t think cats were mentioned once in the conversation over dinner. In hindsight I wish I’d brought my knitting along, as I didn’t really know what to do with myself before or after the service.
Would knitting have been as welcome as dogs?
Oh! Welcome home! (I’m such a doof)
LOL thanks, it’s good to be back. I think it would depend on the dog and the knitting. If it were just a sock that I could knit without paying attention to it, I think it would have been okay– working on lace might be taken as me intentionally tuning people out (which may or may not be a good thing at such a serious event.)
