I dream of turtles

I have weird dreams. Actually, I think my dreams seem weird because I tend to remember at least one or two of them each night and they aren’t so weird, just the more memorable images.

Like last night in my dream: I was on a beach, there was a small house, surrounded by water (indeed inside the house clear water lapped through the livingroom and kitchen deep enough to cover my feet) I was outside the house, found a small sea turtle. I picked up the turtle gently and turned it over and read a message on the bottom.

I’m not saying what the message was, that’s personal.

Then I realized I was dreaming, and got all excited about having a lucid dream and woke up because I was so excited (sometimes I can stay asleep in lucid dreams if I remember to spin sharply to the left in my dream– I don’t know why it works, but it works.)

Anyway, the whole idea of finding messages hidden on turtle shells has me in it’s grips. I love turtles, especially sea turtles, but any turtle, or even a tortoise in a pinch. There’s something solid about them as a dream animal, and good things always seem to happen when I have a turtle in mind.

This has left me wanting to make turtle things. I want to make turtle things that have hidden messages on the shell or maybe not so hidden, maybe just inspirational messages. I don’t know yet.I’m going to go make some sketches and chop up wood.

  1. What about a turtle purse in fabric? That would be fabulous. BTW, honu is the Hawaiian word for turtle.

  2. Cool. A turtle purse is a great idea too!
