After picture

cotton yarn before being developedJust to refresh your memory, this is the before picture of the cotton that took forever and an hour to spin.

It’s 3 ply green organic cotton.

And to develop the green color it needs to be in an alkaline solution with some heat.

Ready?

cotton yarn after being developedThis is the after picture of the same yarn. I ran out of soda ash so I resorted to using a few tablespoons of laundry detergent in the solution.

The result is less gray and more green than the first batch of yarn from the same fiber. I like this color much more and I think I’ll end up redeveloping the first batch in the future.

On the wheel right now is some lovely unbleached tussah silk, which after spinning cotton and then Lincoln is pure heaven. On my spindle is still the same red alpaca fiber that’s been on it for weeks and weeks.

The rain has curbed my bicycle adventures. I’ve been terribly domestic and studious for the past few days. When I was sorting through my books I found a book of quilt blocks. I’m not much of a quilter but I’m tempted to try one or two, purely in the interest of decluttering the ever expanding scrap box.

Of course, the craftaholism continues. Christmas is looming. My normal routine is to be finished with the major gifts in August (this is of course after weeding out those people who prefer store bought gifts in July) and start in on the small gifts in September adding in new victims recipients’ gifts as they appear or as circumstances change.

This would be much easier if my friends would stop going out with and breaking up with new people just through July to December. My single friends are very inconsiderate in these matters (which may explain their single status to some extent) and continue with their tumultuous personal lives despite the inconveniences it causes me.

For the sake of everything sane and rational, at least date people that are similar in tastes. It makes no sense to dump sensitive vegan man, who was totally slated for a practical yet masculine organic cotton canvas satchel  (which by the way is finished) and start dating meat loving diabetic heavily tattooed guy who works at the bakery. What the hell am I going to give him at the Christmas party? Not like I can give him a fruit cake and I don’t think he’s really into a handful of crocheted snowflake ornaments.

Thanks a lot.

I can’t even give him some booze. What were you thinking? Should I just toss him a jar of slim jims and call it good? I thought I’d be really cool and make him a Christmas stocking out of that broad cloth with the flames on it– no good, his sister informs me he already has one with skulls on it. I just can’t top that.

There is only one option; on December 22 you will break up with him, and you may resume seeing him after the holidays are over.

  1. Yeah they are very bad to not take into account the issue of handmade gifts. Dang family!!
They really don’t get it do they?
Oh – the yarn looks great too – I love how it looks now.
